The strange world of beer

Each issue we’ll feature some of the stranger and funnier stories as well as all sorts of other nonsense in association with the Little Beer Company

This edition of Beers of the World we bring a couple of cautionary tales about being desperate for a pint.

Our first little tale comes from the vaults of the Darwin Awards. For those yet uninitiated to these awards they are worth checking out. Named in honour of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards represent examples of evolution in action by showing what happens to people who are unable to cope with the basic dangers of the modern world.

These ironic tales of fatal misadventure illustrate some of life’s most important lessons.

Now our first story involves one beer lover, a cinderblock and what he thought was an ingenious plan to get beer after closing time.

This Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he’d just throw a cinderblock through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run.

Genius plan so far.

So he lifted the cinderblock and heaved it over his head at the window.

It bounced back and hit the thief on the head, knocking him unconscious.

The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.

Next a tale about an impatient Canadian man who was trying to chill his beer to that perfect thirst quenching temperature.

He put the beer in the freezer compartment of his upright refrigerator. When he went to fetch a can, it exploded as he touched it and erupted out of the freezer with enough force to hit him on the head and kill him.

Lovers of ice cold lager be warned.
