This year the revolution is going to happen, and it will be on the hob rather than the television. Beer and food is going to take off in a big way.
In fact the joy of matching great food and greater beer is going to hit dinner tables and pubs across the globe harder and faster than one of Mohammad Ali’s lightening punches.
The man wearing the gloves and pulling no punches in the United Kingdom is beer chef and writer Richard Fox, a chef whose enthusiasm and passion for the subject leaves you wondering why you never did this sort of catering before.
His book, The Food and Beer Cook Book, the first of its kind on the market, is already cooking up a storm and features some outstanding beer and food pairings designed for all sorts of dining occasions, including the summer and barbecue season.
Richard believes beer is part of our heritage, especially with a meal, and people are beginning to return to the fold, crack open a decent bottle and enjoy.
“It makes more sense really as we are steeped in the grain rather than the grape,” he says over a pilsner as Beers of the World caught up with him in London.
“I have to say that this is not a gimmick, it is a growing trend and I think is here to stay.
“In fact this year looks like it will be a big year for beer and food.
“It is about making an educated choice as well, and people are making this leap more and more.” For the 42-year-old Yorkshireman, the whole idea is to regain a sense of balance and not assume that wine is the onl.....
