Blind tasting
Dear Editor,
I’m registered blind and I write a short column on beers for a magazine called The Review for an organisation I belong to called St. Dunstan’s (www.st-dunstans.org.uk), a charity for blind exservicemen and women based near Brighton.
Now, as you are well aware beer and servicemen go back a long way. On a recent beer tasting session one of my ex forces colleagues was sampling a Rodenbach Grand Cru and was so taken aback by it’s ‘racy liveliness’ he shot up and singed his few remaining hairs on the patio heater. As you can imagine, nobody laughed.
Being blind really makes you appreciate the bouquet of the beer. I’d recommend a blindfold tasting session. Apart from being an eye opener (if you pardon the pun) it really is a good laugh!
Regards, Colin Williamson Brighton, England PS. I use a text-to-speech software programme on my computer which allows me to do virtually anything that a sighted person can do on a computer and St. Dunstan’s taught me to touch type so I’m pretty efficient on the comms side of things. I also use a CCTV system which allows me to enlarge an image onto a screen so I use my peripheral vision to its full potential. That’s how I can read your marvellous magazine.
Brew it yourself Dear Editor, As ever, I enjoyed the latest issue of BOTW.
Everards are not the first to do ‘brew it yourself’ however – Red Duck brewery have been running ‘brewer for a day’ events for the past year or so in Victoria, Australia.
In true Aussie ega.....
