Beer Ice Cream
Sounds disgusting? Give it a try and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. We found this one on the ‘net
(www.starchefs.com) amongst many more. Beer ice-creams made from cherry or raspberry kriek sound particularly appealing, but we fancied this recipe made with stout.
You’ll need an icecream maker of course, unless you fancy whipping it and freezing it every 10 minutes. But they’re not expensive to buy, and well worth it we think, if it mean you can eat beer as well as drink it
Ingredients:
500ml double cream
500ml stout
250g sugar
1 1/2 tsp cocoa powder
8 egg yolks
Method:
Bring the cream and stout to a boil in a saucepan.
Mix together the sugar, cocoa powder and egg yolks until light and fluffy, then slowly add the stout/cream whisking all the time.
Return to the heat and cook until thickened, whisking constantly (do not let it boil).
Cool mixture in a bowl, then place in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight.
Process the mixture in an ice-cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions......
