Getting your priorities sorted
Residents of a small Australian town cut off by floods recently received more than just essentials when emergency workers dropped off a large amount of beer.
Hinton in New South Wales was isolated by surging floodwaters following days of severe storms which left nine people dead and caused millions of dollars of damage.
The town’s 400 residents were anxious that the pub would run dry ahead of a much-anticipated rugby league match between New South Wales and Queensland states.
But State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, who had been bringing bread, milk, medication, newspapers and other essentials to the town in two flat-bottomed flood boats, came to their rescue.
SES Spokesman Phil Campbell commented: “When we had some room in the boat we could take a few kegs of beer across to the Hinton pub because of course State of Origin is on tonight, and it’s important that we let communities function as normally as possible.” Amen......
