Texas gold mine (Fredericksburg Brewing Co)

The Fredericksburg Brewing Co in Texas, USA is brewery, restaurant and guest house rolled into one.
What more could you ask for? Leslie Limbo reports

For most travellers B&B means bed and breakfast, but if you’re a guest of the Fredericksburg Brewing Company in Fredericksburg, Texas it means bed and beer.

The oldest operating brewpub in Texas, opened in 1994, features not only a variety of award-winning beers on tap, but also offers lodgings above the brewery. The $99 plus tax room rate (Sunday – Thursday only; $129 plus tax Friday – Saturday) includes a daily sampler of four craft beers. Or, if you’d prefer, one free full-size beer daily with your room.

There are plenty to choose from including lagers, ales, pilsners, stouts, porters, and other delicious choices.

The 11 rooms are decorated in a variety of themes, reflecting influences of Texas history and Texas Hill Country culture. The rooms make an excellent base from which to explore Fredericksburg and the surrounding countryside. The brewpub downstairs is a faithful recreation of a German brewpub.

“We carry the German theme in the food, music, and the beers. We call it going to Germany without a passport,” says owner Richard Estenson.

Under Texas law, the Fredericksburg Brewing Company can’t produce beers for online or instore sales, but patrons at the brewpub can purchase the craft beers on the premise to take home. “Our two-litre Growlers are a popular take-away option,” notes Richard.

Strolling Main Street with a cup of one of the brewpub’s popular beers is quite legal in this town.
