Are you an eclectic drinker?

Michael Jackson doesn’t drink Pepsi. He muses about brews (but who interviewed whom?)

Being called Michael Jackson is a mixed blessing. I have been accustomed to it for many years but recent months have been a trial, as you can imagine. So let’s get that endlessly-raised question out of the way first.

Are you offered special favours when you make a reservation at a restaurant or hotel?

Even on the phone, I am unlikely to be mistaken for The Gloved One. I did worry, though, when I was booked to appear at a club called Tramps, in New York City. The club ran a whole page newspaper advertisement listing the acts to appear each evening; they were all singers, except for me. The names, including mine, were huge. The descriptions were so small as to be barely legible. Mine said simply: Michael Jackson, beer tasting.

When I arrived, there seemed to be a lot of young women in the queue. We had a full house. I discussed in detail 10 or a dozen beers – and no one complained that I didn’t sing.

Aren’t you – forgive me – rather old to have women fans?

A year younger than John Lennon would have been. That didn’t seem to worry the young woman at the Brooklyn Beer Festival – under the bridge – who wanted her boobs autographed.

An American daily newspaper reported that I had groupies,but that is not true.

They are groupies for beer. They are passionate about beer. Among beer aficionados in the United States, young women are more evident than they are in the United Kingdom.
