Williams Brothers Fraoch Heather Ale

Abv: 5%
Type: Ancient Pictish Ale
Bottle size: 500ml
Website: www.heatherale.co.uk
Country: Scotland
Brewery : Heather Ales
Price:
Reviewed in: Beers of the World Issue 4

Tasted by Jeff Evans in issue 4.
Nose : Perfumed, floral and slightly gingery, with sweet toffee in the background.
Palate : More floral character and ginger spice. Light earthy notes and a faint hoppiness lie over the toffeeish sweetness. An unusual but pleasant minty coolness.
Finish : Bittersweet, malty, perfumed and drying, with minty flavours persisting.
Comments : A well-balanced, intriguing, dark golden beer based on a 16th-century recipe. The hot wort is infused with heather flowers and bog myrtle, which presumably is responsible for the spicy flavours.
Score : 7.75
