Tasted by Jeff Evans in issue 3.
Nose : Toffee-ish malt. Delicate estery fruit: faint pear drops, sultana and marzipan. Gently smoky orange notes. Hint of liquorice.
Palate : Silky malt balanced by tangy, peppery hops. Perfumed estery notes: traces of pear and vinous fruit. Alcoholic warmth. Mouth-drying astringency.
Finish : Dry, bitter and very hoppy, with some dried fruit in the background.
Comments : A famous amber-red Kentish ale with a pronounced bitter aftertaste.
Score : 7.25
