Nose : Peppery and malty, with vanilla and toffee notes. Raisin fruitiness.
Palate : Peppery and very spicy. Full malt character (toffee again), but not overly sweet. Some orange zest and strange cola flavours. Warming.
Finish : Subtle for its strength and consequently moreish. Drying all the while but still peppery, malty and bittersweet.
Comments : A red-amber beer that is notably thinner than its stablemate above (and the Rochefort 8 that falls between the two), but carrying similar flavours. Benefits hugely from a delicate finish.
Score : 9.5
